World Cutter and Chariot Racing – Who Won???

Who cares? It wasn’t us. All I know is that we did not win very many races. The last three days of racing brought lots of fun and lots of wind and cold weather. My family ended up with one win for five days of racing. We had fun. We are tired. The excitement is over at least until October of next year. My brother did all the work and I have no right to even say I was part of the horses. My dad did have to two horses that were part of the team and Bob did allow him to help. For the most part everyone but Bob watched from the sidelines. I get excited about about the process just the same. I too am tired of cutter racing for now. After watching over 100 races in three days I can give it a rest till next year.

I will post some pictures and maybe some video if I can make something out of the video I shot while there. Until next time.

World Cutter and Chariot Racing Report for March 22nd and 23rd

2008-03-24 Good news and bad! The All American Cutter Association wins 4 races on Saturday and 1 race on Sunday. To give you some prospective, last year The All American Cutter Association won 7 races in 5 days of racing. That would be 7 of 30 races. There are six divisions and 5 days of racing. The All Amercian has one team in each division just like all the other Cutter Racing Associations.

My family was not among the winners. One of the horses was lame so we ran our third horse. Good old number 3 run his heart out and so did the other five horses in the race. I did not attend the races this week but plan to being among the crowd this week-end. I see the race results are not posted as fast as the horses run. World Chariot and Cutter Race Finals

2008-03-20 Tomorrow teams of quarter horses from all over the Western United States will be meeting in Ogden, Utah for the first day of the World Cutter and Chariot Racing Association’s 2008 Finals. Some of the teams probably arrived days ago to allow the horses to get accustomed the barns, track, and the weather in Utah. The race meet covers two week-ends and is a big draw. Trainers bring their horses from Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, Colorado, and many other states to get bragging rights on which horses run the fastest.

Most of the horses stay in Ogden for the entire two weeks while the trainers go home and work during the week. My dad and younger brother will be there with a team that has done well this year. True to form, dad stays during the week to feed, exercise, and take care of the horses while Bob returns to Wyoming to work. Dad is retired and lives for the horses.

The excitement of racing is very contagious. It is said that anyone can drive in a chariot race once but if you drive more than once your hooked, and as they say, ” It’s in your blood”. It’s kind of ironic that people will spend 6 to 8 hours everyday exercising the horses, cleaning stalls, feeding, and working with the horses just have a twenty three second high in a 440 yard dash on race day. We all say it’s worth the time and money.

Cutter racing is part of my heritage in that my grand dad was one of the original members of All American Cutter Racing Association in Star Valley Wyoming. We claim to be the first and finest Cutter Racing Association in the world.

Being the first is certainly the truth. Being the Best has to be proven every year.

2008-03-18 : This is my first attempt to start a blog. I have started a project on the internet that involves horse drawn equipment and horse related things. It is not complete and I am in hopes of getting ideas from the internet community as to what would be good to put on my web page.

My ideas include cutter and chariot racing, antique farm equipment, carriages, possible training, books, and anything else that could come along that relates to horse drawn equipment.
